Bio
A native of Columbus, Ohio, and graduate of Ohio University, Anne Saker spent forty years as a reporter and writer at daily news organizations from coast to coast: United Press International in Norfolk, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.; Gannett News Service in Washington; The News & Observer of Raleigh, North Carolina; The Oregonian in Portland, and The Cincinnati Enquirer/cincinnati.com. She was a member of the Enquirer team that earned the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in local reporting for “Seven Days of Heroin,” a chronicle of the region’s opioid crisis. She led the Enquirer’s coverage of the coronavirus pandemic. Her work earned numerous honors including the Enlightenment Award from the Ohio Psychiatrists Association for her coverage of youth suicide. The Greater Cincinnati chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists made her the 100th inductee into its Hall of Fame. Her freelance work has appeared in the New York Times, USA TODAY and Sky & Telescope. She also is a potter who teaches wheel-throwing at her community studio, produces the studio podcast, “Clay at Our Core,” and sells her art at local shows. She lives in Cincinnati with her orange tabby cat and muse, George.
